INTRODUCTION OF BOI CREDIT CONTROL APP FOR CREDIT CARDS

"BOI Credit control app" is a product that is designed for the credit cardholders to have a complete control of their Credit Cards using their smart phones. Cardholders can control the usage of their cards through this service. The Cardholder can control his card limits, control usage in a particular country, control usage in certain points of sale. Cardholders can set control preferences to match the desired usage profile for their own cards as well as their dependents' cards, and change it instantly when needed. On top of controlling the card settings, the cardholder can use the same access channels to retrieve information related to his card; list of transaction, "open to buy"/account balance, in addition a Spend Analyser is offered.

Controls and Features

"BOI Credit control app" offers the following controls and features:

  • Lock/Unlock card: Users can protect their cards from getting misused by turning ON and OFF only when they want to use it.
  • Green Pin: User can create new pin OR user can change pin of his/her Credit Card. When user click on green pin option, OTP is sent to the registered mobile number. After validating the OTP, user set new pin.
  • Set Card Limits: Users have the flexibility to set their own maximum Transaction limits for every card.
  • Card Usage: Depending on the user's requirement, user can also enable/disable their card for specific type of transactions- ATM or POS. For Example, if the user does not wish to use his card for purchases, then he can disable POS transactions by turning it OFF with a single touch.

     

              Also user can control the usage of international transactions by enabling the specific countries in which the card can be utilized. User can also blacklist MCCs for prevent transaction on specified businesses.

  • Keep Track: User need not visit the branch/ATM to get the details of the transactions. User can view the recent transactions as well the expense history instantly on the app itself.
  • Notification: Users can get notified for every transaction occurred with his payment cards on the mobile app.
  • Account Summary: Users can view the details of account like Credit limit, minimum amount due, unbilled amount, etc.
  • User Profile Management: Users can manage his account by using change and forgot password functionality and change MPIN.

Types of Transactions

Card-Present Transactions

When a customer uses a card that is physically present to make a purchase, the purchase is known as a card-present transaction. This type of transaction typically occurs in a retail environment.

Card-Not-Present Transactions

When a customer provides a card number but you do not have access to the physical card, the purchase is known as a card-not-present transaction. This type of transaction typically occurs over the Internet or through a call centre.

International Transactions

When a customer uses a card to make payments from a country other than his own, the purchase is known as international transaction. This type of transaction requires observing the processing rules and practices of the payment systems in that country

Registration and Usages

User can start using the application by installing the “BOI Credit control app” from Google Play Store/App Store. Once the application is downloaded, user needs to register by following the registration process.

  • Does the card exists
  • Is the card a primary card
  • Is the card active
  • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his Smartphone and views the login page as the initial page of the app
  • User selects the option for registration.
  • User enters his card number and expiry date and “BOI Credit control app”  checks against the back-end systems for the following:
  • If yes, the mobile number and email address is retrieved from customer profile.
  • Card control module generates an OTP (One time password) and sends it on registered mobile number of the customer.
  • The user receives an OTP on his registered mobile number and enters it into the “BOI Credit control app”.
  • Post validation, the user is prompted to create UserID / Password & MPIN. The UserID is checked for duplicate, if unavailable then the UserID is allocated to the customer else, the user will have to create a new userID.
  • After successfully creation of user, the primary cardholder is registered and the corresponding account is flagged in the back-end systems.

For the primary card entered by user, all the primary card and related add-on cards are displayed in mobile application. Thus the usage of the primary card and all related active add-on cards can be control in the Card Control. Furthermore, the Card Control receives the transaction messages for these cards.

6.  User Login

User can login with his login credentials and start using the application. The login process is described as below:

  • User views the login screen on start of the app
  • User will enter his credentials i.e. username and password
  • After validation, user will be able to view his card(s) and the controls related to those cards.
  • User can now control his card(s) by setting up preferences for different parameters using the Mobile Application.

Control of Card(s)

User can control the preferences of the card using Card Control application on their mobile. The application will provide the users with a list of card(s) for which they can setup their own preferences. The application displays active and inactive primary as well as the add-on cards that are linked to the primary card. User can setup various controls on these cards. The different controls include:

  • Temporary Blocking

    User can lock or unlock the card(s) on a real time basis. This feature will give the user the ultimate control over the cards from being misused, lost or stolen. All transactions carried out by using any payment channels will be declined when the card is in lock status.

    The temporary blocking is a de-activation of the card that takes place only in the Card Control; it does not affect the card status in the CMS.

    The primary cardholder can lock / unlock the primary card as well as all add-on cards.

    To change the status of the card from Lock or Unlock, the process which needs to be followed is as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app”  app on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User goes to the “Rules” tab for the selected card and changes the status of the card by confirming temporary locking/unlocking of the card
    • User saves the changes by entering the MPIN to validate the request.
    •  If the MPIN is validated successfully, the status is changed i.e. the card enters into the locked/unlocked state.
    • If the MPIN validation is unsuccessful then user will be again prompted again to enter MPIN.
    • The card state i.e. temporary locked/unlocked is stored in Card Control DB.

    Note: The user would be allowed to enter the MPIN for a maximum of 5 times upon which the MPIN would be block. User would need to generate a new MPIN by requesting and validating One Time Password (OTP).

  • Spend limit Configuration

    User can set different limits for a card on a real time basis. These limits will primarily be Transaction and Monthly Limit per card. The transaction limit will cap the transaction amount for a single transaction while monthly limit will cap the maximum cumulative amount of transactions which are allowed during a month. Any transaction which surpasses these limits will be declined by Card Control System.

    Limit

    User can define a maximum amount for per transaction limit, for his primary card, within default maximum transaction amount limit provided by Issuer (Bank). This per transaction amount limit becomes the default one for each primary cardholder’s add-on card. User can change the per transaction limit parameter for the add-on card by select the respective card.

    A primary cardholder shall be able to define a maximum transaction amount limit for one of his add-on cards within default maximum transaction amount limit defined for his primary card.

    Any transactions made on the card beyond the set limit have to be declined by Card Control.

    To change the limit of the card, the process flow will be as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects a card and goes to the action “Limit” for the selected card and can enter a new value for billing cycle limit and/or per transaction limit from his Mobile.
    • User saves the changes made and the application prompts user to enter the MPIN to validate the request
    • If the MPIN is validated successfully, the limits are changed & user is intimated regarding the same. Else the user will be prompted again to enter MPIN.

     

    Note: He would be allowed to enter the MPIN for a maximum of 5 times upon which the MPIN would be block. User would need to generate a new MPIN by requesting and validating One Time Password (OTP).

  • Enable/Disable International Transactions

    User can enable/disable international transactions by turning ON/OFF the “International Transactions” option on the “BOI Credit control app”. Once a card is added, default domestic country will be based on card issuer country & currency. During a transaction, if international transactions are disabled, user will not be able to make any international transactions on any channel (international IPG (CNP scenario)/international POS or ATM) using his card. User has option to enable the international transactions in selected countries or all countries.

    To change the status of International Transactions from blocked to unblock or vice versa, the process flow will be as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects a card and goes to the action “Rules à International transaction” for the selected card
    • User can change the status of foreign transactions (i.e. Block or Unblock) and save the changes. In case of enabling the international transaction user can select desired countries (max 4 countries can be enables) or all the countries can be enables.
    • Application prompts the user to enter MPIN to validate this request
    • If the MPIN is validated successfully, the status is changed i.e. the international transactions are blocked/unblocked.

    If the MPIN validation is unsuccessful then user will be again prompted again to enter MPIN.

  • Enable/Disable Payment channels (POS, ATM, Online)

    Users can enable/disable specific type of transactions depending on the expected card usage. For example, if the user doesn’t shop online often, he can disable e-Commerce but turn it on instantly when required. The application allows the user to block or allow transactions originating from a particular payment channel(s) like ATM, In Store POS, E-Commerce for a specific card on a real time basis. This feature will either enable all transactions originating from a specific channel which have been allowed by the user or will decline all transactions originating from a specific channel which has been blocked by the user. For e.g., If customer has disabled ATM Withdrawal channel but has allowed E-Commerce Transactions, all the transactions originating from ATM would be declined, whereas transaction originating from E-Commerce based systems would be allowed and processed.

    To change the status of the channel from allowed to block or vice versa, the process flow will be as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects the card to enable or disable the payment channel
    • Card Control shows the current channel preferences which has been set for that card.(Initially, all the channels are enabled)
    • User views the available payment channels for the selected card under “Rules” tab
    • User can change the preferences of the payment channels by turning on or off a particular channel and save the changes made.
    • The application prompts the user to enter the MPIN to validate the request.

    If the MPIN is validated successfully, the statuses of the channels are changed & user is intimated regarding the same. Else user will be prompted to enter MPIN again.

     

 

Transactions

  • View Transactions

    User can view the recent and past transactions instantly on the Card Control application. The user will be able to view the history of the transactions which have been authorized or declined by Card Control.

  • Recent transactions

    User can view the recent transactions by selecting the “Recent Transactions” option from the homepage. A maximum of last 10 transactions can be viewed in the Card Control Application. The transaction would provide details of the Merchant, Channel Used for Transaction, Amount, Date and Time of transaction, and authorization status to the customer. The transaction(s) can be in approved, declined or reversed state with an appropriate reason for decline, if any. The process for the same is as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects the card for which he needs to view the recent transactions.
    • Card Control application pulls the data from the server and displays the transaction history. There will be separate colour codes for approved & declined transactions.
  • Expense History

    User can view detailed list of all approved, declined or reversed transactions which have been processed after user has registered for Card Control. The application will show detailed list of all transactions which have happened in last 30 days. The transaction would provide details of the Merchant, Channel used for Transaction, Amount, Date and time of transaction and authorization status to the customer. The transaction(s) can be in approved, declined or reversed state. This feature is used to track expenses incurred in last 30 days. The process for the same is as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects the card for which he needs to view the transaction history.
    • Card Control application pulls the data from the server and displays the transaction history. There will be separate colour codes for approved & declined transactions.
  • Expense Analyser/Graph

    User can view the transaction summary in a graphical format in the “BOI Credit control app”. User can select the “Expense Graph” option from the “Transactions” tab to view graphical view of all transactions which have happened in last 30 days. The transactions will be displayed in Pie Chart format with additional filters of Channel wise transactions and Merchant Category Wise transactions. This information provides transaction summary in graphical manner with percentages denoting the preferred channel/category used by customers. The process for the same is as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects the card for which he needs to view the expense graph
    • User views a Pie chart of the expense summary with percentages denoting the preferred channel/category of transactions used
    • Card Control application pulls the data from the server and shows the transaction history of last 30 days in graphical format.

Profile Management

User can make changes to his existing profile of Card Control Application. User can reset the password, retrieve a forgotten password or rest the MPIN.

  • Forgot Password

    User can reset the password by using this functionality. This feature may be used in case where the user forgot his existing password. The process flow for password reset is as follows:

    • User selects, forgot credentials option on the Card Control Application, then go to password option.
    • Application will prompt the user to enter his username
    • Once the user enters his username, the information is validated against the information stored in the Card Control database at the backend
    • If the validation is successful, then an OTP is sent to the registered mobile number.
    • User will enter the OTP received on his registered mobile number
    • On successful validation of OTP at the back end, the application shows the screen for user to enter new password.
    • Once the user enters the new password, the same is updated at the backend and confirmation is sent to the user.

  • Reset MPIN

    User can reset the MPIN by using this functionality. This may be used in case the user forgot his existing MPIN. The process flow for MPIN reset is as under:

    • User can enter an MPIN for a maximum of 5 times, after which the MPIN would be blocked.
    • An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number. User enters the OTP received on his mobile number
    • On successful validation of OTP at the back end, the application shows the screen for user to enter a new MPIN.
    • Once the new MPIN has been entered, the same is updated at the backend and confirmation is sent to the cardholder.

Card Management

  • Hotlist Card

    User can block his card(s) by hotlisting the card in the “BOI Credit control app”. This feature will block the card from any kind of transaction usage. This feature is extremely useful if the user feels his card has been compromised. Once the card has been hotlisted in the app, the user will not have an option to de-hotlist the card on the app. The process is irreversible.

    To hotlist a card, the process flow will be as under:

    • User opens the “BOI Credit control app” on his mobile, logs in with his username and password
    • User selects a card that he intends to hotlist
    • User will be prompted to enter MPIN to authenticate himself.
    • If the MPIN is validated successfully, user will be prompted with a warning pop-up & asked to confirm request. Else user will be prompted to enter MPIN again.
    • Once the user confirms the request, the application processes the request of hot-listing the card and the request is sent to the CMS for the same.
  • Session Management

    This is a security feature which is aimed at preventing unauthorized access to Card Control App. This feature prevents multiple login to the application using same login credentials on different devices simultaneously. At a time, only a single device can log to Card Control Application. If two devices logs in at a same time, customer would be intimated regarding the same. If there has been a security breach, he would be forced to change the password.

  • Notification &Alerts

    Customers will receive in-app notification alerts for all transactions done using a registered card. If a transaction is declined or approved due to certain control parameters set at Card Control Server, a notification alert will be sent to user with appropriate message.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Question 1 - How does Customer register for UControl?

Answer - The process for registration is as under:

  • Download the application from Playstore or iTunes store
  • Post installation, click on Registration Tab
  • Enter 16 digit Active Primary Card Number & Expiry in MM/YY
  • Post this customer will receive an OTP on registered Mobile Number
  • Enter OTP on the application and create User ID, Password & 6 digit MPIN
  • Once validated, a notification will be sent on registered mobile number regarding successful registration
 

Question 2 - What is an Active Card Number?

Answer - This is the Customer’s Card which is not hotlisted, cancelled or closed.

 

Question.3 - What is MPIN?

Answer - This is a 6 digit number which is used for authorizing the changes done to any of the parameter in the application. This is also used for authorizing a device when existing customer changes the handset and login with existing credentials.

 

Question 4 - What is the relevance on Prev & Next on the Card Selection Page post login?

Answer - In case you have multiple Primary Card Numbers, then you can see the hierarchy of each Primary Card Number and associated Add-on cards on a single page. You can view the next set of Primary and Add-on card by clicking on “Next”. And “Prev” is used for seeing previous set of Primary and Add-on card which you saw previously.

 

Question 5 - What do I do in case I have forgotten by Username?   

Answer - In order to recover the existing Username, you need to carry out below steps:

  • Click on “Forgot Credentials” on the Login Page
  • Select Username Tab
  • Enter 16 digit Active Primary Card Number which was used for registration & Expiry in MM/YY
  • Post this customer will receive an OTP on registered Mobile Number
  • Enter OTP on the application
  • On OTP validation, you will see a notification on the screen specifying the Username
  • You can also select the option of sending this Username as an SMS on the registered Mobile Number
  • Once select, you will receive an SMS from Bank with Username
 

Question 6 - What do I do in case I have forgotten by Password?

Answer - In case you have forgotten your password, you need to carry out below steps:

  • Click on “Forgot Credentials” on the Login Page
  • Select Password Tab
  • Enter your existing Username and click on Request OTP
  • Post this customer will receive an OTP on registered Mobile Number
  • Enter OTP, New Password & Confirm New Password fields on the Application
  • Once validated, you will receive a confirmation that the Password has been reset
  • You can use this password to login to the application
 

Question 7 - How can I change the Password of my application?

Answer - In case you need to change your password, you need to carry out below steps:

  • Click on “Change Password” by clicking on the drawer (3 lines) on the left side of the application
  • Please enter your existing Password in “Old Password” field
  • Please enter New Password which you want to be set for the application in “New Password” & “Confirm Password” field
  • Once validated, you will receive a confirmation that the Password has been changed & you will be logged out of the application
  • You can use this new password to login to the application
 

Question 8 - How can I change MPIN of my application post login?

Answer - In case you need to change your MPIN, you need to carry out below steps:

  • Click on “Change MPIN” by clicking on the drawer (3 lines) on the left side of the application
  • Please enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number in “Enter OTP” field. You can also use the option of “Resend OTP” in case you do not receive the OTP
  • Please enter New MPIN which you want to be set for the application in “New MPIN” & “Confirm MPIN” field
  • Once validated, you will receive a confirmation that the MPIN has been changed successfully.
 

Question 9 - I am unable to login to the application as I have changed my device and forgot my MPIN?

Answer - In this case, you need to call the Customer Care on the number mentioned in the Help Button. You need to provide the information sought by Call Centre executive post which they will reset the MPIN. This MPIN will be shared on your registered Mobile Number. It is also recommended to change this MPIN post login by using “Change MPIN Option”.

 

Question 10 - What is the maximum of incorrect MPINs which can be entered in the application?

Answer - You can enter incorrect MPIN for maximum of 5 times post which the application will force you to change your MPIN.

 

Question 11 - What are the actions which I can do under Rules Tab?

Answer - You can carry out following actions under Rules Tab:

  • Card Status : You can either block or unblock the card temporarily in case you are not able to find your card or you don’t want your card to be used temporarily
  • In-Store Transactions: You can use this option to enable/disable your card from being used at POS at Merchant Locations
  • ATM Withdrawals: You can use this option to enable/disable your card from being used at ATM’s for Cash Withdrawal
  • Internet Transaction: You can use this option to enable/disable your card from being used at Ecommerce Portals for Purchases
  • International Transaction: You can use this option to enable/disable your card from being used in countries outside India. In this you can also select the option where you either want card to be used in all countries or specific countries depending on your needs
  • MCC Blacklisting: You can use this option to enable/disable your card from not being used at specific Merchant Categories.
  • Hotlist Card: You can use this option to permanently block your card
 

Question 12 - What are the activities which I can do under Transactions Tab?

Answer - You can carry out following actions under Transactions Tab:

  • Recent Transactions: You can view your last 10 transactions which have been done post card registration
  • Expense History: You can view all transactions done in last month which have been done post card registration
  • Expense Graph: You can view all transactions done in last month which have been done post card registration in graphical format
 

Question 13 - What are the activities which I can do under Limits Tab?

Answer - You can carry out/view following activities under Transactions Tab:

  • Credit Limit: This is the total credit limit which has been assigned by Bank to you
  • Available Credit Limit: This is the total credit limit which is available for usage post deduction of transactions done till date and credit or any reversals, cashbacks done on the card
  • Per Transaction Limit: This is the limit which you can set on the card which will be less than or equal to Credit Limit assigned. This limit will be applicable on each transaction which is done on the card.
  • Card Cash Limit: This is the total cash withdrawal limit which has been assigned by Bank to you
 

Question 14 - In recent transactions, I see colour against transaction as Blue, Yellow & Red. What is the relevance of the same?

Answer - The interpretation of the colour is as under:

  • Red are approved transactions
  • Yellow are reversed transactions
  • Blue are declined transactions
 

Question 15 - On the page which shows Card, I see that the button on card in Green state moves from right to left. In certain cases, it also turns Red. What is the relevance of the same?

Answer - The interpretation of the colour is as under:

  • Green State in right direction means the card is active
  • Green State in left direction means the card is inactive i.e. temporary blocked
  • Red means the card is hotlisted, cancelled or closed
 

Question 16 - I get error as “Your Card is temporary active” while setting up enabling International Transactions and Merchant Blacklisting. What does it mean?

Answer - This error comes because the Card Status is OFF i.e. you have temporary blocked the card. In case you need to enable any of these options, you need to change the Card Status to ON i.e. unblock the card

 

Question 17 - I see a Globe symbol combing before tab for International Transactions. What does it mean?  

Answer - This option will be used for selecting/de-selecting specific countries which are enabled for International Transaction. You can use this option to select specific countries which have to be enabled. When you click this button, a pop-up will come which will showcase name of different countries. You can select the country where you want your card to work and Click on Save. Post this; the countries selected by you will be visible on the Tab below International Transactions. You can save this by entering MPIN.

 

Question 18 - When I select the option of Merchant Blacklisting, I see a Pop-up with Select Merchant Group. What does it mean?

Answer - Since you have selected the option of Merchant Blacklisting, you need the category of merchant for which you need disable the transaction. Selection of one of the category is essential and in case you do not do the same, all the Merchants Category will be enabled and Merchant Blacklisting Tab will be switched off. You can select the Merchant Group where you don’t want transaction to be accepted. Click on Save to Enable the category of Merchant for Blacklisting. Post this you will see the Merchant Category Blacklisted below the Merchant Blacklisting Tab. You need to save changes by providing MPIN.

 

Question 19 - Whenever I change any parameter for the Primary Card, the application prompts whether I need to make these changes for Add-on Card. What should I do?

Answer - This is a user friendly feature which we have built in the application. When the application prompts and you select option of Yes, it will automatically change all the parameters for Add-on cards and you do not have to go to individual add-on card for making those changes. However, if you select No, then you can manually go and select each card and set parameters for that card.

 

Question 20 - When I am trying to login to the application, it gives me a pop-up stating that I have changed the device/version and I need to authenticate using MPIN. What is the relevance of this?

Answer - This is a security mechanism which has been built in the app to prevent any misuse of the application. This pop-up comes when you change your mobile handset or change the version of application but try to login using the existing credentials. There is no need to worry. You just enter your 6 digit MPIN in the pop-up and continue using BOI Credit control app.

 

Question 21 - When I am trying to enable International Transactions, it is showing me a pop-up. Can you please explain what it means?

Answer - When you enable International transactions, the application provides you with an option to enable the card acceptance in all countries or specific. If you select all, then your card will be accepted in all international countries. However, if you want to select specific countries, you press select. On selection, a page will open up which will provide option for selecting specific country. You can select and save the same by using MPIN.

 

Question 22 - When I am trying to disable International Transactions, it is showing me a pop-up. Can you please explain what it means?

Answer - When you disable International transactions, the application gives you a warning that if you disable international transactions, then all the selection which you have made in the past (enabled for all countries or specific country enabled) will be lost. If you save this and next time you enable international transactions, it will prompt for a menu again where you need to select the country for international acceptance i.e. either all countries or specific countries.

 

Question 23 - When I am trying to disable Merchant Blacklisting, it is showing me a pop-up. Can you please explain what it means?

Answer - When you disable Merchant Blacklisting, the application gives you a warning that if you disable Merchant Blacklisting, then all the selection which you have made in the past (of specific Merchant Group) will be lost. If you save this and next time you enable Merchant Blacklisting, it will prompt for a menu again where you need to select at least one Merchant Group.

 

Question 24 -What is the relevance of Clear ALL and Save button in Merchant Blacklisting?

Answer - Whenever you enable Merchant Blacklisting, it is mandatory to select at least one Merchant Group. The Clear ALL button will clear the current selection of Merchant Group selected for Merchant Blacklisting. However, it will show you an Error where it is ask you either select Merchant any One Group by using “Continue Selection” option or by using “Unblock All”. If you select Continue Selection, it will show the same page as that for Selecting Merchant Group. However, if you select Unblock All then your Merchant Blacklisting option will be disabled and you need to save the same using MPIN.
